Israeli low-cost carrier Israir is pursuing a new route to the U.S.
The airline is awaiting final approval for a nonstop transatlantic connection between Tel Aviv and Miami, The Jerusalem Post reported on Monday. The carrier is also seeking permission for flights to and from Tokyo, the newspaper said.
“We are working to secure the final approvals required for additional routes,” Israir told the Post, adding that it would “provide updates as the relevant processes are completed.”
Israir currently serves only one destination in the U.S., New York-JFK. That route relaunched earlier this month, after a nearly 20-year pause.
Currently, only El Al flies nonstop between Tel Aviv and Miami. The Israeli flag carrier also serves JFK, Newark, New Jersey, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
